SAFETY & DRUG INTERACTIONS

Safety Issues

Ingredients have extensive safety testing and/or clinical usage with no evidence of harm. Ingredients do not share mechanisms of action with NSAIDs or corticosteroids.
One of the chief bioflavonoids in Uniflex® - catechin - is also found in other common foods such as apples, chocolate, green tea, wine, and most fruits and vegetables.
Catechin gets its name from Black Catechu (Acacia catechu), a tree whose bark has been used for many purposes. Black Catechu is listed as GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe).
The Herb Research Foundation published an independent review of Chinese Scullcap safety in March, 2004, that also included Uniflex®. The authors concluded: "Chinese Scullcap is a flavonoid-rich plant that should be acknowledged as generally recognized as safe (GRAS); it is a safe and healthy food ingredient that would provide significant antioxidant capacity, among other health benefits." Their analysis of Uniflex® itself concluded: "…no adverse effects."
The main components of Uniflex® are two herbs: Scutellaria baicalensis and Acacia catechu. The active bioflavonoids in these herbs are also found, in lower amounts, in common foods such as apples, tea, wine and chocolate.
